Obituary of Charlene Shreve
Please share a memory of Charlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charlene Shreve, born November 24, 1952, 71 of Sinclairville, left to be with our Lord on October 16, 2024, doing what she loved, caring for her beloved horses. Charlene loved all life. Her lifelong relationship with horses and many farm animals allowed her to pursue a life of “homesteading.” Char was an avid gardener and preserver of food, and she found great joy while sharing her preserves with family and strangers.
Charlene’s love of life was evident in the lives she surrounded herself with, but also through her desire to stay with those she loved. Charlene proudly defeated aggressive breast cancer in 2020. She then continued to share her love with the people and animals she cared for. Her life’s work began long before her homestead took shape in Charlotte Center. She was employed for over 30 years at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant, retiring in 2007. After her retirement she was employed at the Sinclairville Superette and loved working in the center of her community.
Charlene lived a faithful life and lived to serve her lord and family. She loved all that came to her and her love and generosity was genuine. Nobody would leave a conversation with Charlene feeling like they were not heard. Charlene’s children, grandchildren, and life partner felt her love every day.
Charlene leaves behind her life-long partner and best friend Darwood Hitchcock. Charlene Shreve is the mother of Joanna (Mike) Marsh of Dryden, Shawn (Sherri) Shreve of Sinclairville and Katrina Shreve of OR; grandmother of Gavin and Garet Marsh and Ian and Quentin Shreve and Jessica Ramirez; Sister of Wanda Johnson, Eugene "Tom" Eaton, Bruce (Judy) Eaton, Robert (Alexandra) Eaton. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her stepmother Jean Eaton Sweeney also resides in Sinclairville. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Arletta Pratt Eaton and siblings Arletta “Sue" Townsend and Buzz Eaton.
Charlene’s absence will be felt by all who knew and grew from her love. Her faithful life of sacrifice and devotion to others and her Lord will continue to touch those she has left behind as she is with her Lord and Savior. A visitation for those that loved Charlene will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville from 4-6 p.m. A prayer will be held at 6:00 p.m.
