Obituary of Doris R Abbey

Doris M. Abbey, 94, formerly of Sinclairville, passed away October 5th, 2024. She was born on August 21, 1930 in Cherry Creek the eldest child of the late Robert and Anna Alter Rettig. She had one sister, Shirley Coon and one brother, Robert J. Rettig, Jr. She graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1948. There she met her future husband, of 62 years, Richard P. Abbey whom she married on August 21, 1948 in the Cherry Creek Baptist Church and who passed away on July 12, 2010. Doris was a life exempt member of the Sinclairville Firemen's Auxiliary, member of the Sinclairville Health Care Committee, former election inspector for Town of Charlotte and worked for the Cassadaga Valley Central School system for many years, retiring in 1991. She Attended Sinclairville Baptist Church. Doris is survived by her children, Roger (Fran) Abbey, Marilyn (Greg) Josephson, Sharon (Runee) Prince, Linda (Jeff) Barnes, and James (Mia) Abbey and her brother Robert Rettig, Jr., grandchildren, Tad (Rose), Britt (Heidi), Shawn (Elizabeth) and Morgan Abbey, David Josephson, Kristine McKinnis, Brandon Newell, Ashley (Jeremy) Dates, Tom Barnes, Chantal (Erik) Powenski and the late Ryan Newell; 15 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, parents and sister she was preceded in death by a son Edwin Abbey. As per Doris' request funeral services will be private.
