Diane K. Shaw, 80, of Cassadaga, died on Saturday evening August 17, 2024, at her home in Cassadaga, with her family around her. Diane was born on April 14, 1944 in Dunkirk to the late Lavern F. and Marian B. Reuther Shaw. Diane was a Chautauqua County resident most of her life. She was a 1963 graduate of the Cassadaga Valley Central School, and a graduate of the Jamestown Business College. Diane enlisted in the United States Army on July 5, 1963 and served until 1966, earning the rank of E-5 in the medical field. She was employed at the Cassadaga Blue Ridge Dairy Bar from 1966-68, and Patton Electric in Fredonia while she was attending the business college. Diane was employed by the Central Chautauqua Insurance Agency from 1968 through 1983, and from 1983 to 2016, she was a nurse’s aide at the Heritage Village in Gerry. She was awarded the employee of the month while at Heritage Village, and for having perfect attendance for 28 years..
Diane was a member of the Cassadaga Community Baptist Church, and served as the Memorial Fund Secretary for over 30 years. She has been a member of the Cassadaga American Legion Post #1280 since 1968 to the present, and served as the Legion Chaplain. Diane studied the Bible in great detail and always believed in helping others. She was honored by being the Legionnaire of the Year in 2019. She was a member of the Cassadaga Branch Library, a member and officer in the Cassadaga Valley Kiwanis Club, a member of the Cassadaga Garden Club, the Hilltop Spinners Spinning Wheel organization, the chaplain of the Thule Lodge #127 VASA Order of America, the Valley Historical Society, the Sinclairville Senior Citizens, the Gerry Rodeo Senior Citizens and the Cassadaga Labor Day Weekend Festival through the Bicentennial of Cassadaga in 2009. Diane is a life honorary member of the Cassadaga Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of the Jamestown Chapter of the National Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and an associate member of the Benjamin Prescott DAR. Diane has been a very faithful delivery person for the Sinclairville 76ers meals on wheels program.
Diane is survived by a stepsister Elizabeth Shaw Snyder. Diane is the aunt of Lavern (Dimmer) F. Shaw III, who she helped raise, his wife Jodelle, and daughters Amanda (Tyler) Winkelmann and Alexis Shaw. She is the great-great aunt to Tyler and Amanda’s twin girls, BillieRose Sydney Winkelmann and JoLynn Elizabeth Jean Winkelmann. She is the aunt to eighteen other nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and grand nephews.
Her parents, her brother Lavern F. Shaw II, and stepbrother, William Shaw, predeceased her in death.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Cassadaga Cemetery. Arrangements by the Jordan Funeral Home. Condolences to: jordansinclairville.com
