Nellie E. Wissman, 106, lifelong and oldest resident of Gerry, passed away peacefully late Monday afternoon at Heritage Village R.&S.N.F., Gerry.
Born Dec. 17, 1916 in Gerry a daughter of the late E.J. and Ruth Geiger Damon and was a 1933 graduate of Falconer High School.
Nellie was a fulltime; wife, mother, grandmother, volunteer and prayer warrior, (Prov 3:5&6). She volunteered at Heritage Village for over 25 years and was awarded Presidential Certificates of Recognition from President Bush and President Clinton for her dedicated, selfless work.
Nellie was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church for over 90 years and was involved in numerous ministries and countless outreach and missionary programs including; making afghans, lap blankets, sock dolls, Operation Christmas Child to name just a few.
She was a talented; artist, baker, quilter and was compassionate to stray cats. Quiet by nature, she would offer an opinion, once telling a policeman who pulled her over for doing 80, "Maybe you should focus more on the real criminals!"
Dedicated wife of 60 years to Oscar Wissman who she married Mar. 3, 1933 and who died Apr. 1994; mother of Luella Storm of Gerry and the late Jon (Daphne of Rogers, AK) and Rex (late Sally) Wissman; grandmother of 11; great-grandmother of 12; great great-grandmother of four. Nellie is preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. Also survived by beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation 10 a.m. Saturday in the former Gerry Free Methodist Church, 4500 Church St., Gerry, with the funeral service commencing at Noon. Burial in Gerry Cemetery.
