Obituary of Ruth E Hammond

Ruth E. Hammond, 95, formerly of Sinclairville, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 22, 2023. Born July 13, 1927 in Decard, TX a daughter of the late Frank and Ada Potts Barkman. A Chautauqua County resident most of her life, she was an alumni of Celeron High School. Prior to marriage, Ruth was employed at National Worsted Mills, Jamestown. After raising her family she was a self-employed house keeper for various families and also operated a business from her home of baking and various needle crafts. Ruth and Paul opened there home and hearts to care for 39 foster children. Wife of 72 years to the late Paul A. Hammond who she married Oct. 12, 1945 and who died Jan. 8, 2019; mother of, Diana Beard of Jamestown, Ronald Hammond of Utah and the late Kathaleen (Richard of Cassadaga) Moore and Paul "Butch" Hammond; grandmother of seven grandchildren including the late Darryl Joy. Ruth has one great-grandson and is also survived by nieces and nephews and was preceded in death by her sister and five brothers. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Sunday in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday. Burial in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
