Lois M. Apthorp, 82 of Cassadaga and Fredonia, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Born Feb. 26, 1940 in Silver Creek the only daughter of the late Harland and Viola Slater Higgs. Lois grew up on a Sinclairville farm and loved the country. She lived most of her adult life in Brocton and had worked hard at several area businesses including A. Sam and Son's, Dunkirk. She was always available to not only her family, but her children's friends as well, who loved her very much. Before being a patient at the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Lois had lived between her son Walter's and daughter Mary's home(s). She loved gardening and animals. She had been Cancer free for over 30 years. Wife of the late William Apthorp; mother of Mary Dolce, John Sullivan, Jr., Walter (Mary Jo) Apthorp, James (Doreen) Apthorp and the late Caroline Jock; step-mother of, Janet (Charlie) Morris, William and the late Jeannie Apthorp; grandmother of 13 including the late Jennifer Beaujean; great-grandmother of 19 including the late Jasmine Morrison; sister of, Earnest Harvey, Louie Higgs and the late Robert Higgs, Lester and Donald Harvey; sister in law of Laura Higgs and Pam Harvey; mother in law of Charles Jock. Also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation Monday 5-7 p.m. in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville with the funeral service 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial in Charlotte Center Cemetery.
