Obituary of Robert L Anderson

Robert L. "Bob" Anderson, 76 of Jamestown, passed away Thurs., Dec. 16, 2021 at home, following a brief illness, surrounded by his family. Born Jan. 3, 1945 in Dunkirk a son of the late John and Alice McGuire Anderson. He attended Dunkirk Industrial High School with the class of 1963. Bob was a Veteran of the United States Navy with the Navy Seals and served many tours during the Vietnam Conflict including in the South Pacific. He was employed for over 20 years with the Jamestown Police Department retiring in 1987 and was also employed for many years at Universal Gas. Bob also was employed, and enjoyed interacting with the students, as a bus driver for Falconer and Bemus Point Central School Districts. He was also a certified SCUBA instructor and commercial diver. Bob was a Lifetime Member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department and loved directing traffic for many years at the Gerry Rodeo. He was also a member of the Cassadaga Memorial American Legion Post 1280, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Gerry Free Methodist Church, member and in the past held several offices in the Jamestown Kendal Club. Bob was an avid outdoorsman who not only enjoyed SCUBA diving, riding motorcycles, hunting and fishing but also loved teaching his family the sports. He was the "Crew Chief" for his grandkids race cars. Bob loved spending time with his family. In Bob's eyes no one was a stranger, he was a friend to everyone. Husband of 59 years to Betty J. Burgess Anderson who he married Oct. 6, 1962; father of, Jerry (Rita) Anderson of Gerry, Michael (Grace) Anderson, Sr., of Jamestown, Kimberly (Gary) Collins of Dunkirk, Robert (Suzanne) Anderson, Jr. of Manteca, CA and Tracy (Matthew) Davenport of Simpsonville, KY; grandfather of, Michael Collins of NY, James (Jen) Anderson of FL, Christopher (Jen) Anderson of NY, Alicia (Adam) Carr of NY, Mary (Justin Jose) Lincoln of NY, Megan (Dustin) Ybarra of CA, Michelle Anderson of NY, Michael(Casey) Anderson of NY, Robert (Rondee) Boyland) Collins of NY, Robert (Meghann) Anderson, III of CA, Shawn (Amber) Larvick of KY, Johnathon (Lexi Vazquez) Collins of NY, Chance (Brennan Sutton) of KY, and Brent Davenport of KY; great-grandfather of 25; great great-grandfather of two; brother of James (Audrey) Anderson of CA. Bob is also survived by nieces and nephews. He's preceded in death by his great-grandson Leland Anderson and his faithful canine companion Hoss. Visitation Tuesday 4-8 p.m. in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville. Funeral service 11 a.m. Wednesday in Park United Methodist Church, 49 Sinclair, Dr., Sinclairville. Burial in Gerry Cemetery.
