Obituary of Rudolph Petrowsky
Our dear father, Rudolph (Rudy) Petrowsky, 93, of Ashville, NY peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. He will join his wife, Lenora Alice (Dalrymple) Petrowsky of 57 years, whom passed away May 11, 2009. He died in his home in the presence of family.
He was born April 19, 1928 in Leroy, OH. He was the son of John and Anna Petrowsky. He had two sisters, Jenny and Rose and six brothers; Jim, Walt, Louis, Bob, John, and Frank.
He was a passionate man with many interests. As a young man, he came to Jamestown in 1945 and worked for Whorsted Mills. A year later he took a job at Art Metal. By trade, he was known as a hand-grainer, painting steel furniture to look like wood. He worked there for 30 years. He enjoyed driving cab for Skyline Taxi in Brooklyn Square. He also worked at Crescent Tool and Dowcraft. In the fall of 1972, he purchased the Wattsflats Grocery and operated it until the spring of 2005.
Rudy loved life! He enjoyed the “pull” on the end of his fishing pole thinking it was the “big-one”! He loved fishing on the banks of Chautauqua Lake, or dropping his pole in for an evening “catch” in a nearby stream. He loved playing cards, harvesting black walnuts, gardening, spending time in Ohio with his family, and trips to Florida. He was also famous for his homemade turtle soup and pies. He enjoyed coffee every Friday at 3:00 at Tim Horton’s in Lakewood with the family.
Surviving are his daughters, Roberta (Thomas) Karlson of Panama, NY; Laurie (Fred) Russell of Ashville,NY; and three step-sons, Edward (Barb) Slumski ; Tom ( Barb) Knott; John ( Sue) Hess all from Jamestown, NY. He was the proud grandfather of thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
He was an active member of the Lakewood Baptist Church for many years. He was also an honorable member of the I.O.O.F. International Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 1976 where he participated as a Noble Grand, Past Noble Grand, Secretary, Grand Guarding, as well as District Deputy. He attended several Grand Lodge meetings in NYC.
He’s going to be greatly missed by family, friends, and neighbors.

Funeral service to follow 11am at the Funeral Home. Pastor Daniel Cook will officiate.
