Obituary of Geraldine S Marsh
Please share a memory of Geraldine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Geraldine S. "Gerry" Marsh, 90, of Brocton, formerly of Cassadaga, passed away
peacefully, Friday, April 3, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was born June
28, 1935, in Westfield to the late Lawrence and Virginia (Shreve) Alexander.
In her early years, Gerry was employed at the former Rounds Basket Factory, Stockton,
but most of her career was spent as a “custodial engineer” at Cassadaga Valley Middle-
High School. While she halted her own schooling at age 16 to care for her parents and
begin her own family, Gerry frequently boasted, following her retirement in 1995, that
she had gone to high school for over 30 years.
Gerry was an auxiliary member of the J.W. Dill American Legion Post 434, Brocton, a
former auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 1280, Cassadaga, regular attendee
of the Sinclairville 76ers luncheons, and dedicated American Red Cross volunteer. She
loved spending time with family, neighbors, and friends, who warmly knew her as Ger-
Bear. She was a prolific embroiderer, enjoyed old-time country music, and played bingo
at nearly every church, firehall, and community center in Chautauqua County (estimated
at over 20,000 games played).
Gerry was the wife of the late Carl B. Marsh, Jr., who she married Oct 21, 1952, and who
died June 17, 1997; mother of Kathryn (William) Cornel of Atlanta, MI, Thomas
(Natalie) Marsh of Jamestown, and the late Karen (Tim) Cave of Fredonia; grandmother
of Kurt (Kerri) Smith, Korydon Smith (Julie Haase-Smith), Matthew and Zachary Cave,
Michael (Kaitlyn) and Ashley Marsh, along with seven great-grandchildren; sister of five
brothers and two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gerry’s family extends deep gratitude to the Brocton Fire Company for their dedicated
service and care. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Brocton Fire Company,
80 Lake Avenue, Brocton, NY 14716.
Visitation is Thursday at 11am in Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville, with a closing
prayer at 1pm, followed by a reception at American Legion Post 1280, Cassadaga.
Private burial will be in Cassadaga Cemetery.
